Case Reports Total body irradiation induced multiple bone dysplasia : A case report
Abstract We report a case of a 7-year-old boy who was a long-term survivor of stage IV neuroblastoma with a history of total body irradiation(TBI)and autologous bone marrow transplantation(ABMT)during the previous 3 years. He underwent a skeletal survey for evaluation of knee pain. A variety of bony abnormalities were demonstrated such as osteochondroma, epiphyseal and metaphyseal dysplasia, and numerous vertical metaphyseal striations. This constellation of unusual bony changes reminded us of skeletal dysplasia. After some diagnostic confusion, we finally diagnosed TBI-induced systemic bone changes. Awareness of these systemic bone changes helped to preclude diagnostic confusion and unnecessary workups.
