1. Diagnostic imaging of ventriculoperitoneal shunt malfunctions and complications in pediatric patients

Abstract

  Most pediatric patients with hydrocephalus are treated with ventriculoperitoneal(V-P)shunt placement. However, complications from shunts are common and can present with a variety of signs and symptoms. Imaging analysis is an essential adjunct to the clinical evaluation of patients with suspected V-P shunt malfunctions or complications. This paper illustrates the imaging findings in various malfunctions and complications associated with V-P shunts in pediatric patients.
